WHAT DID DEHNE REALLY SAY?

Let's set the record straighter about the Reno Gazette quote of 5 June, '96.

Sam Dehné, who considers himself about as patriotic as the average citizen, worked harder than anyone to correct the Nevada Air Guard mission. (Anyone who can't see the benefits of that correction, well... they can vote for his opponent.) He was prepared to accept the Air Guard as a member of the community - IF THEY STAYED WHERE THEY WERE.

But he says, "If they have to move, then they should be moved to a military base." Because:

  1. "Building a military base in Reno is a waste of tax dollars."
  2. "A military base in the middle of thousands of civilians will cause blight, sprawl, and danger."
  3. "It is an atrocity to force scores of citizens off their land and out of their homes; for this ill-advised scheme."

A FEW THINGS ABOUT SAM DEHNE

Is Sam Dehné innovative enough to serve on the Reno City Council? Can he produce original stuff? Can he accept the responsibility and authority of being a Reno City Council member?

INNOVATIVE:

While a pilot in the Air Force, Dehné planned and organized fuel conservation procedures that have saved America more than $1,000,000,000.00 in taxes.

Recently Dehné played an instrumental part in correcting the Nevada Air Guard mission to the C-130. Dehné had to confront an establishment that wanted more noise-polluting and dangerous fighter jets (the F-16) in Reno.

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY:

  1. While a pilot in the Air Force, Dehné was used to flying B-52 Strategic bomber deterrence missions - with 20 MEGATONS of nuclear bombs strapped between his legs. Now that's responsibility!
  2. While a pilot for Pan Am, Dehné was elected chairman of the New York union of pilot/second officers for 3 years in a row.
One thing Dehné won't do is raise money to campaign on billboard - blight signs. Raising money for advertising has absolutely nothing to do with being a good Citizen representative... As a matter of fact, it just makes the candidate obliged to his "contributor".
