Washoe County Commission
Sam Dehne Applies for Reno Airport Board of Trustees.
County Commission Will Choose Fat Cat Mouthpiece.
1. In an attempt (yet again) to bring some level of expertise and sanity to what is arguably one of the most poorly run government agencies in northern Nevada, Sam Dehne is submitting yet another application to the Washoe County Commissioners for appointment to the Reno Airport Authority Board.
2. Consider first that the current Board membership has virtually no aviation background. In recent years it (once again) proved its lack of understanding of aviation issues by rubberstamping a grotesque subsidiary Post Office hub operation at Reno's downtown airport... that would have led to armadas of late night cargo flights by noisy, dangerous, polluting old jets. (Thank goodness [and Sam Dehne] that scheme fell through.) They continuously and arrogantly refuse to listen to intelligent public input that is adamantly against the terrible devastation that will be caused by the onslaught of these flights by dangerous and noisy airplanes. (Click here for more on that blunder)
3. Do Sam's credentials warrant appointment? No. They demand he be appointed!

A Few Reasons Why I am Best Qualified for
Appointment to Washoe County Airport Authority Board (AAWC)
As a Reno citizen for 36 years, and as an individual with a strong background in commercial and military aviation, I would finally bring to the airport Board a person who would serve the interests of the people of Reno and Washoe County.
My proven management and organizational skills, as demonstrated by my experience as a flight officer with the United States Air Force and with Pan American Airlines, substantiate my potential as a leader who will make some positive contributions to the Board and to the citizens of Washoe County. I offer proven ability in such areas as cost analysis, budget management, problem solving, labor relations, and staff development... as well as in detection of chicanery.
Honest airport operations are important for the continuing prosperity of the local economy. The airport has favored the tourism and business moguls sometimes to the detriment of the peaceful existance of the citizens of Washoe County and Reno. Aviation operations must be consistent with a balance between competent business practices and uncompromising concern for the welfare and safety of all citizens. Up to now the latter concern has been too-often ignored by the current airport Board.
My knowledge of local issues that bear upon aviation activities will permit me to lead the way in making logical cost-effective recommendations to the benefit of the community. The airport should be ancillary to the community's concerns. Currently it is just the opposite... with the tail almost always wagging the dog.
Many aspects of the noise, danger, pollution, and other negative aspects of the Reno Airport are currently being ignored. They must be addressed soon. (Measuring and studying noise does not mitigate it.) I live in the immediate vicinity of the airport. And thus I will be the only member of the Board with the unique capability to monitor and find solutions for these terrible problems.
As an energetic and healthy individual with time to dedicate to the task, I will be better able to continue to correct some of the blunders of the current Board. I have no conflicts I have a long-time proven goal of serving and protecting the citizens of northern Nevada.
If appointed to the Board, I will bring a much-needed (and currently missing) balance between the citizens and special interests. I will earnestly endeavor to justify the faith placed in me by the Washoe Commission. It is of more than passing interest to note that I, as a concerned citizen, have attended every Airport Board meeting for the last 8 years. I have observed firsthand, and tactfully exposed and challenged, many of the problems permeating the Reno Airport.
I invite questions from anyone having same and look forward to my public interview with the Commission.
